Why would someone see a Naturopath or other Natural Healthcare Practitioner?
Natural Healthcare Practitioners are specialists who have studied for years in their respective fields. Visiting a healthcare practitioner may be an option for people who have not been able to find relief for their chronic illness through medicines, or those who struggle with niggling symptoms or side-effects. In many cases, both conventional and natural medicine can be used together to manage an illness.

What should I expect from my first visit to a Healthcare Practitioner?
Natural Healthcare Practitioners take a holistic approach to patient care, meaning that they will complete a comprehensive assessment in the first session. This will likely comprise of a detailed history of your health, your current symptoms, an overview of your lifestyle, and any relevant medical conditions.
Based on the assessment, the Practitioner will create a personalised treatment plan which may include recommendations for your diet, changes to your lifestyle, natural medicines & other therapies.
To encourage active participation in your health journey, they may also provide additional resources to help educate you on your condition/s and medicines.
How can I best prepare for my first consultation?
Your Healthcare Practitioner will guide you through your first session and will likely let you know of any important documentation or details they wish for you to bring along during the booking process.
The Practitioner will complete a comprehensive assessment in your first session, so at a minimum they will want to talk through your medical history (noting any conditions or symptoms you may be experiencing), the foundational components of health (sleep, diet & lifestyle factors including exercise), any medications (traditional or natural) you are currently taking, along with a physical check of key health measures (blood pressure & appearance of your eyes, skin, hair & nails to name a few).
How much will a Healthcare Practitioner session cost?
Depending on the type of Healthcare Practitioner you visit (Naturopath, Chiropractor, etc), the location of their practice (state/territory, CBD or suburbs, etc) and the field in which they operate (general practice, specialist, etc), consultation fees will vary.
As a general guide, you can expect to pay somewhere between $80 and $200 for an initial 60-90 minute session with a Healthcare Practitioner.
Often, these services are not covered by Medicare, but are sometimes partially covered by Private Health Insurance, depending on your policy’s inclusions, limits & restrictions.
Healthcare Practitioners will generally have standardised fees for consultations and ongoing sessions, so it is worth discussing this upfront when making or confirming a booking.
